Geodesic Domes are not only amazing examples of mathematics and engineering - but are beautiful examples of architecture. Some examples of these worldwide are: Epcot Centre’s Spaceship Earth; the Eden Project in Cornwall in the UK; the EcoCamp Hotel in Patagonia and the largest one at 216m in Fukuoka in Japan.

At MakerMeetIE, we promote project-based S.T.E.A.M. education for students of all ages by providing workshops, events and classes.

We will build a Geodesic Dome not quite a large as the one in Japan, but large enough to accommodate some S.T.E.A.M. workshops after construction. We are inviting the general public, makers, teachers, builders, students and pupils to help us build the Rome Dome.

The only materials used in construction of the Rome Dome will be extra large pieces of cardboard and Makedo Scru's! (and perhaps some duct tape for support!)

A Geodesic Dome is an excellent example of using all of the aspects of S.T.E.A.M. by using Science to test rigidity; Technology using 3D printed hinges, Engineering to form the Dome itself, Arts to decorate the Dome and principles of Math using Fibonacci Numbers and the Golden Ratio.

This project will not only be fun, entertaining and exciting, but a chance to build the space needed to engage in educational workshops for pupils, parents and makers to take valuable skills back to their classrooms, Makerspaces and homes.
