SweetPaper (polimeri biocompatibili)

We are a group of students at “E.Fermi” high school, in Mantova.
Our specialization is Industrial chemistry and we’ve been asked to participate at IFS - a training program – with a project called “Sweet paper”.
“Sweet Paper” is focused on the reduction of plastic consumption over the last decades.
The project has started from the idea to develop a biodegradable polymer to reduce the environmental impact and limit the production of harmful materials.
Commonly, polymers contain stabilizers, flame retardants and plasticizers, which are still under investigation for possible poisoning cases on human lives.
Another important goal - who can be considered at the top of our priority list for this project- is to reduce the quantity of plastics materials which will be sent to incinerators or plastic landfills.
We have performed deep research focused on the development of plastic films from natural materials which will not cause any damage to the environment.
In addiction to this we’ve studied about all of those materials and their chemical, physical and mechanical properties.

At the end we’ve developed two different plastic films:
1- Scratch-proof: Who should be used as protective films. The main characteristics are to dissolve in water and be robust to accidental scratch or cuts.
2- Packaging: Where the main characteristics are to be transparent and thin. We can change, everyone know that is hard, but it’s for our healthy.
