CNR-STIIMA performs strategic activities of Scientific Research and Technological Development for the Competitiveness and Sustainability of Italian and European Manufacturing Industries. Recently, the competences developed in the manufacturing field have been exploited in emerging areas related to the use of advanced technologies for healthcare, Internet of Things, Ambient Intelligence, Ambient Assisted Living and Context Awareness. CNR-STIIMA, in its new premise in Lecco, is currently employing a multidisciplinary team of engineers, IT researchers, psychologists and designers to increase its attention toward the individual’s needs in the field of manufacturing (e.g., human factors in Industry 4.0, ergonomics), healthcare (e.g., VR/AR and robotic technologies to support rehabilitation and the continuation of care) and Ambient-Assisted Living (e.g. the smart home). STIIMA Lecco is currently working on many national and European projects aimed at the customization of services according to end users’ needs and desires and has the competencies, not only to develop innovative solutions, but also to validate and evaluate their effectiveness when applied to real-life scenarios.
