Cultivate in space!
Space V is a spin-off of the University of Genoa; it owns the international patents of the “Adaptive Vertical Farm” architecture, which holds the promise of greatest efficiency in producing fresh vegetable food in space settlements. The distinctive feature of the adaptive greenhouse is its capability of progressively moving the distance between the cultivation shelves of the vertical farm according to the level of plants growth, maintaining distinct microclimates for each shelf, thus maximizing the production yield per unit volume and unit time, reducing the overall energy usage.
Patrizia Bagnerini, Echrak Chnib, Antonio De Donno
Patrizia Bagnerini is an associate professor in numerical analysis at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Genoa, and one of the founding partners of Space V. Echrak Chnib and Antonio De Donno are two doctoral students at the University of Genoa conducting their research on the adaptive greenhouse.
