Virtual Telescope Project: the Sky is your Land
The Virtual Telescope is an advanced project active in the research, educational and science communication fields. It offers robotic telescopes installed under dark skies, remotely accessible over the internet. It gained a stunning international reputation. The Virtual Telescope Project shares worldwide in real-time the most spectacular astronomical events like close approaching asteroids, comets, eclipses and meteors. The international Astronomical Union named asteroid (435127) “Virtelpro” after the project.
Gianluca Masi
Gianluca Masi graduated in Astrophysics and earned a PhD in Astronomy. He has discovered tens of asteroids, many variable stars andco-discovered three extrasolar planets. In 2006 he founded the Virtual Telescope Project. His contributions are regularly featured by the most important media of the world. Asteroid (21795) Masi was named after him. He is National Coordinator in Italy for Astronomers Without Borders and Asteroid Day. Scientific curator of the Planetarium of Rome, he is member of the International Astronomical Union, of the European Astronomical Society and associated to the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica.
