Eco-sustainable cosmetic product from waste material

Eco-sustainable cosmetic product from waste material

Design and development of an eco-sustainable cosmetic products from waste materials and formulated with completely green and vegan excipients and manufacturing processes. Production will follow the principles of a system based on the circular economy with minimal environmental impact. Starting from raw material, food waste and byproducts (i.e. grapes and pomegranates) active ingredients with a powerful antioxidant, anti-aging, soothing and moisturizing action will be extracted. Through literature studies and classical extraction experiments we have noticed that the greatest amount of active ingredients of these two species are concentrated in the residual waste biomass. Among these compounds, many of them have potential applications in various fields including cosmetics, such as polyunsaturated fatty acids, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, proantocyanidins and vitamins. Thanks to the synergistic effect that is generated with the right composition of flavonoids and phenols in grapes and pomegranate, it is possible to obtain a powerful anti-aging, organic and vegan cosmetic product.

Francesco Margheriti, Marco Chianura

"Francesco Margheriti: Master’s degree in Chimica e Tecnologie Farmaceutiche cum laude. I worked in Pharmacy with focus con cosmetic products. Thesis concerning of design and synthesis of anticancer drugs concluded with publication. Experience abroad where I dedicated myself to the small molecules test. Experience in the industrial field thanks to the production optimization work for Aenova. Currently I am enrolled to PhD program at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa where I deal with active structural resolution and design of small molecules.
Marco Chianura: Master’s degree in Economia e Direzione delle Imprese, major in Digital Management, at Luiss University of Rome in 2018. I had work experience both in structured firm and start-up. "
