What we already thought would be a fun trip turned out to be so much more: the love and enthusiasm of the exhibitors, attendees and Maker Faire Rome’s team for innovation, education, and general celebration of the maker movement was awe-inspiring. There is so much to see that a single year in attendance is not enough, so if you ever get the opportunity, head to this show, soak in the sea of inventions, and make some great friends along the way.

SASA - Sapienza Flight Team
Sapienza Flight Team is made up of students from different faculties of the university. It groups
Aeronautical, Mechanical, Management and Computer Engineers united by the desire to accept new challenges. It was born in 2010 when a group of students, supported by prof. Guido De Matteis, created an extracurricular project that could give vent to their passion for the design and construction of radio-controlled aircraft.
Over the years, the project has achieved excellent results in international competitions and has attracted more and more students from the faculty. This success leads the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering to sponsor the project.
In 2012 Sapienza Flight Team joined SASA.
After many years as a competitor in the Design Build & Fly competition, organized by AIAA (American institute of
Aeronautics and Astronautics), the team decides to accept a new challenge and enrolled in the SUAS (Student Unmanned Aerial Systems) competition in 2019.
The team aims to participate in the SUAS competition organized by the Association For Unmanned Vehicle Systems International. Among the competitors there are many of the best scientific and technical universities in the world. The prestige of the event also derives from the sponsors who support it.
The competition requires students to design, integrate, present and test a UAV capable of
autonomous flight and navigation, remote telemetry and execution of a series of missions.
The teams will be asked to guarantee the success of 3 main tasks that will be evaluated by a jury of
experts: the drafting of a Technical Journal Paper that describes the design of the system and the approach to be followed for its realization, a Flight Readiness Review (FRR) in which the teams demonstrate their state of preparation and a mission demonstration in which the team's performance is evaluated.
