Two stroke engine created with 3D printer

Two stroke engine created with 3D printer

A two-stroke engine with a displacement of 50 cc for motorcycles in PLA material was created using a 3D printer.
The planning of the project consisted of various phases:

  1. Collection of data and information on the technical characteristics of the endothermic engine

  2. Verification of dimensioning of elements and related tolerances

  3. Drawing of assembly elements on Autodesk Fusion 360 platform

  4. Drafting of a technical-descriptive report

  5. Preparation and conversion of files in G-code format for 3D printing

  6. Three-dimensional printing of assembly elements with Prusa i3 MK3S+ 3D printer

  7. Insertion of the Iridium two-stroke spark plug, recycled from a motorcycle, in the appropriate seat

  8. Assembly using small parts

  9. Preparing the wooden base recycled from an unusable school desk

  10. Coating of the wooden base with a portion of recycled non-slip carpet

  11. Fixing the assembly on the wooden base

  12. Connection of the assembly to the power unit consisting of spindle, planetary gearbox and electric motor, all recycled from discarded screwdriver

  13. Connecting the power unit to a variable voltage power supply

  14. 3D molding and fixing of a descriptive plate on the wooden base

4BM ITIS "G.Galilei"_IIS Pontecorvo

The class 4 B ,of the mechanical- mechatronic course of ITIS Pontecorvo, is formed by 13 entreprising young students. They are very keen on assembling ,diassembling and modifying mechanical devices. Their learning method has always been based on a pragmatic approach. This approach is aimed to a direct exploration of the theoretical principles and laws that govern physical phenomenas.A constant pecularity in their learning process is their interest for the environment and the propensity for recycling
