Evolving Matter

Evolving Matter

The research project investigated how biofabrication is influencing the culture of the project, offering a perspective on the materials, the and the factories of the future. In particular, experimentation has concentrated on microbial nanocellulose, product of the process of
fermentation of a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts or S.C.O.B.Y., starting from the sensorial exploration of the material to imagine new forms of post-industrial production. Interacting with the process of fermentation is in fact possible to determine the perceptive characteristics of the material (smell, color, texture), can affect the appreciation from involving the user on an emotional level

Lorena Trebbi

Lorena Trebbi, Designer and PhD, is a Post-Doctoral Researcher and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Planning, Design, and Technology of Architecture of Sapienza University of Rome (Italy). She carries out her researches in the field of innovative materials for design, focusing in particular on biofabrication and the opportunity of implementing symbiotic processes between nature and culture, design and science.
After a bachelor degree in Architecture obtained at the University of Naples Federico II, she graduated in January 2017 with a Master of Science in Product Design at Sapienza University, where she achieved the Doctor Europaeus/PhD degree in June 2021.
